Who you can nominate for an award
The Mayor's Civic Award recognises people's hard work to improve the lives of others in our local community.
- You may nominate an individual or a group for a Civic Award.
- Nominees should not have won a Civic Award for the same work before.
- We give Civic Awards for outstanding voluntary work. Activity as part of paid employment is not eligible for a Civic Award.
The Civic Awards are for adults. If the person you are nominating is aged 18 years or younger, nominate them for a Ben Kinsella Award instead.
The awards panel wants to read nominations for people who have gone above and beyond:
- helping Islington to become a greener, healthier borough
- nurturing Islington’s children and young people
- supporting the safety, connection and inclusivity of Islington’s communities
- supporting Islington’s residents through the cost-of-living crisis.
Tips for your nomination
We recommend you submit your nomination as soon as possible so that the Mayor’s Office has time to contact you if we need any more information.
The form asks you to tell us why the nominee deserves an award (maximum 300 words). Make sure you give specific examples of:
- how the nominee has contributed to life in Islington
- who their voluntary work has benefited and how.
The awards panel will consider all eligible nominations on their own individual merit. If you are nominating more than one person for the same work, we recommend you submit a joint nomination for them as a group.
To avoid disappointment, we advise that you do not tell people you have nominated them for an award. Following the meeting of the awards panel, the Mayor's Office will contact shortlisted nominees to invite them to the awards evening in March 2025.
How to nominate
Nominations close at 5pm on Monday 27 January 2025.
