Cycleways in Islington

To make cycling safer and easier for you, we’re creating new cycle routes and improving existing ones all around Islington.

Cleaner, greener and healthier transport

Islington Council wants to create a cleaner, greener and healthier borough with sustainable, safe and enjoyable transport for all.

Local people have told us that they want their streets to be friendlier placers that are easier for everyone to use, to enjoy being outside in clean air, to make it safer for active travel such as walking, cycling and using public transport.

Our people-friendly streets scheme and cycling improvement programme are creating more pleasant spaces for those who want to walk and cycle.

Improving cycling in Islington

We are on a mission to improve cycling in Islington and make it an accessible option for as any local people as possible. Some of the improvements we are making include:

  • New cycle routes (including protected cycle lanes, low-traffic routes and signage)
  • Safer roads (20mph limit everywhere, improved road entries, roundabouts and junctions)
  • Free cycle skills training for everyone
  • Working together with TfL and other boroughs to create an integrated cycle network
