The Arts on Estates programme is a range of creative opportunities for residents who find it difficult to access mainstream arts due to financial, health and social reasons. Being creative or enjoying the arts builds wellbeing, confidence, skills, social connections, physical and mental health.
The programme is mostly free and made possible through Islington’s network of community centres, hubs and partner venues.
Working with our partner organisations, we have made a range of activities available to residents on estates, such as:
- art classes - open to all, but mainly for the over 50s
- choir – beginners vocal workshops that are fun and engaging
- handbag making – using offcut materials to make your own unique bag
- henna painting – learn beautiful henna hand designs
- knitting – knitter knatter club giving you the chance to learn basic stitches while chatting with fellow crafters
- pottery – both children and adults can learn pottery basics such as making bowls, tiles and jugs.
- printmaking – design your own unique T-Shirt and wear it with pride.
- quilt making – history and impact of quilts – from slavery, suffragettes to present day.
- soap making – learn how to make your own beautifully-smelling soap.
This is just a flavour of some of the activities and the programme is always growing and changing based on demand and need.
