Household Support Fund application

Find out how to apply for a one-time payment for residents with a disability or those with a child who has a disability.

This grant is to help residents who get a higher rate of disability benefit, or any rate of disability benefit for a child, and are struggling with the cost of everyday essentials. It is funded by the UK Government. 
 
Funding is limited, so there will be one award per household. We will only consider one grant per household. A household is you, your partner, dependent children and any non-dependant adults you live with. 

Awards will go to those who meet the eligibility criteria on a first come, first served basis.

We check Council Tax and Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) information to make sure that you:

  • live at the address you claim
  • have to pay Council Tax
  • get an eligible benefit. 

Eligibility

To apply for help you must:

  • live in Islington – this must be your main and permanent address
  • receive a means-tested welfare benefit and receive a higher rate of disability benefit or any disability benefit for your child.

Means-tested welfare benefits

  • Universal Credit
  • Pension Credit
  • Jobseekers allowance – income based
  • Employment and Support Allowance – income-related
  • Income Support
  • Child or Working Tax Credits
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Support.

Higher rate disability benefits for adults

  • Personal Independence Payment (enhanced rate daily living)
  • Personal Independence Payment (enhanced rate mobility)
  • Disability Living Allowance (high rate care)
  • Disability Living Allowance (high rate mobility)
  • Attendance Allowance (higher rate)
  • Universal Credit which includes the Limited Capability for Work-Related Activity element
  • Employment and Support Allowance (support component)

Child disability benefits

  • Disability Living Allowance (any rate)
  • Personal Independence Payment (any rate)

How to apply

Read the guidance and complete the online application to apply for the grant.

  • If you do not get one of the above means-tested benefits and disability benefits, we will refuse your application.
  • The person making the application needs to be the person that gets the means-tested benefit and disability benefit, except for children where we ask that the appointee for the child make the application and the appointee needs to get the means-tested benefit for the child.
  • Make sure to give us full information and the correct details so that we can assess your application as quickly as possible
  • Awards must be used as intended. Using the award for any other purpose or providing false information will mean we will recover the payment from you as well as any additional costs and interest.

What happens after you apply

  1. We'll assess any submitted applications during office hours, Monday to Friday and decide if you are eligible based on your application and circumstances.
  2. We'll let you know our decision by email or post.
  3. If you are successful, you will receive £200.
  4. We can pay the money into your bank account by bank transfer. You will need to upload a bank statement. If you do not upload a bank statement, we will send you an award letter that you can take to your nearest Post Office to collect a one-off cash payment.

We'll try to complete all applications within 20 working days. If you have already applied, do not apply again. We are processing applications in the order we get them, earliest to most recent.

Missing information

We will contact you by email to tell you what information is missing from your application. If you do not provide full information in your application or the correct documents, this will slow down your application and may mean you do not receive an award.

When the fund will close

We will close the scheme when we have received enough applications to spend the full amount of funding.
