Residents’ Survey 2018

In January-February 2018, BMG Research (on behalf of Islington Council) undertook a face-to-face survey of 1,000 Islington residents. This research was carried out door-to-door by BMG interviewers and follows previous residents research conducted by post in 2009 and telephone in 2014 and 2015.

The survey included randomly selected residents from every ward - meeting set targets for age and gender, and monitoring for ethnicity. The results of each question were compared to the Local Government Association (LGA) average – with Islington coming out higher than average in most categories.

When thinking about Islington as a place to live, 91% said they were satisfied and 92% think Islington is a place where people from different backgrounds get along well.

On council services, 65% think the council is efficient and well run, with 81% satisfied with the facilities and maintenance of our parks and open spaces and 78% satisfied with rubbish collection services. Sixty-six percent think the council is trustworthy and provides good value for money, with the same number agreeing that the council listens and responds to feedback.

However, residents also told us what they’d like us to focus on with 65% asking us to work with partners to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, 35% asking us to prioritise good quality affordable housing and almost one in three asking us to ensure there was activities for children and young people.

We’ve listened to what residents said and the feedback from this survey has helped to underpin the council’s new priorities – as set out in our Corporate plan

The report outlining the results of this survey is available here.
